During one of the most uncertain times in modern history, a vision was born.
At the height of the 2020 pandemic, Guyanese-born media entrepreneur Dr. Michelle Gill launched Get With the Fix Radio (GWTF Radio) a dynamic digital platform bridging Caribbean culture with audiences across the United States and beyond. What started as a passion driven initiative quickly evolved into a growing international media presence, powered by a team of DJs and personalities amplifying diverse voices and authentic sounds.
But behind the growth was a battle many don’t see.

Dr. Gill initially began the process of trademarking her brand in 2018. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the application was unknowingly abandoned in 2021 leaving the brand vulnerable. In February 2025, that vulnerability became real when she discovered another party attempting to claim ownership of the GWTF name.
What followed was a high-stakes fight for identity.
Determined not to lose what she built, Dr. Gill took immediate action reapplying for trademark protection and navigating a complex, expensive, and emotionally draining legal process. With competing claims and multiple legal communications, the journey tested her resilience.
But she didn’t fold.
On March 31, 2026, Dr. Michelle Gill officially secured full federal trademark registration for Get With the Fix (GWTF Radio) in the United States granting her exclusive legal rights to the brand and solidifying her ownership in one of the world’s most competitive markets.
This isn’t just a legal win it’s a cultural one.
Reflecting on the journey, she shared a message that every creator, entrepreneur, and artist needs to hear:
“You don’t own your brand until it’s officially trademarked. Anyone can claim it and you could lose all your hard work. Being able to protect your name and send cease-and-desist letters when necessary is empowering. For me, as an immigrant, owning my brand represents the American dream.”

Beyond the victory, Dr. Gill is now committed to helping others offering guidance free of charge to anyone looking to protect their brand and avoid the same challenges she faced.
Her story is a reminder:
In today’s digital world, ownership is power and protecting your brand is just as important as building it.
